With a built-in validator, Discovery will examine the IEC 61850 model definitions found in either Live IEDs or in models defined by the SCL files (ICD/CID/IID/SCD). The end result is peace of mind that the files and IEDs you are dealing with conform to standard requirements, and that the engineering processes you design and commission will be successful.
SIMPLIFY THE IEC 61850 TESTING PROCESSES
Discovery intuitive screens guide you through all aspects of IEC 61850 testing without the need for any previous knowledge. Browse IEC 61850 Server IEDs and understand model definitions with full confidence. Discovery has a built-in ASN.1 encoder designed to parse the IEC 61850 information models in a way that is fully suitable for traditional Protection and Control Engineers.
TROUBLESHOOT WITH CONFIDENCE
Event and Communication Logs are designed to capture and explain entire GOOSE or MMS Client/Server data exchanges. Client Requests & Server responses are logged and presented with a clear message description, status, direction and timestamp. Embedded COMM records will save message exchanges in PCAP format suitable for Wireshark users.
YOUR WORK COMPLETELY DOCUMENTED
Save your test results, captured messages, event and communication logs or IED model definitions. Discovery provides a powerful wizard allowing “Print and Export” options that let you save your work in PDF, Word, Excel, Text, XML, or HTML formats.
CONSTANT HELP
Placing your cursor on any of the Project tree elements will trigger a useful tip: IED services will be identified or the purpose of a Logical Node will be described. While exploring a Data Object, Discovery will immediately identify Common Data Class (CDC) and associated Data Objects & Attributes.
COMMON WORKSPACE
As part of the Grid Software Engineering Studio, Discovery is part of a common app workspace within Engineering Studio. As a result, share project information with other Studio apps like: SimLab, SCL Matrix or SV Analyzer. Copy + Paste will work throughout the Studio apps saving you time & effort.

Connect & Browse through Ed1/Ed2 IEC 61850 Server IEDs to understand their model definitions in detail. Take advantage of the proven benefits of Discovery allowing you to verify MMS functionality within IEC 61850 Server IEDs including: MMS connections, Read/Write, Reporting, Logging, Control Operation, Tracking Services or File Transfer.
Monitor received MMS Buffered and Unbuffered reports with triggers, data and inclusion bitstrings all displayed on the same panel. Use custom filters to present only data or triggers of interest.
Initiate Data Logging with IEDs which support IEC 61850 Data Logs. Reconnect to query for Logs by date & time or by Log ID, then analyze received logs using the Log panel.

Discovery supports execution of all control models defined by the IEC 61850 Standards. Optional Interlocking, Synchrocheck and Test conditions are also available. Confirmation messages are provided in the Communication log for every executed control.
